help - users, groups & permissions
Calliope defines at least two users, "admin" and "guest", and at least four groups, "admin", "trusted", "friend", and "guest." Every user is a member of some group, and each group has a distinct set of permissions. The default groups are designed to be "heirarchical" in nature, with each group having more permissions than the last, until admin has the right to do anything. Generally, "admin" and "trusted" are assumed to be on the physical machine (and can do things like burn CD's), "friend" can edit and alter the DB and the random queue, and guest can pick music and see what's playing. From the standpoint of the queue, is group has a ranking, and each user can have a ranking within the group. Thus, when a "trusted" user adds a song to the queue, it appears above the "friend" and "guest" picks, but below the "admin" picks. "Friend" can alter the random queue, and the picked songs, if they were added by a "friend" or a "guest" user, but of course, not if they were added by "trusted" or "admin" users. When editing the order of the queue, each ascending group rank can edit that much more of the queue (assuming many groups are picking songs). ( See also: help - the random queue )
administration From the "admin" menu, the administrator can add, alter and delete groups and their permissions, as well as add/modify/delete individual users. Each user has a "priority", which is their ranking within their overall group. Each group has a set of permissions associated with it. The various permissions all have individual descriptions; in addition, try "modifying" a group to see what different permission sets have already been defined.
