scottish highlands

They don't have valleys in the highlands, they have glens, and this is one of the many. It's incredibly beautiful. It's so far north that during the summer, the sun rises around 7 am, and it's light out until almost 11 pm. In the winter, apparently, the sun sets around 3 pm.

There are walking paths all over England and Scotland; they're marked out on all the ordinance maps. Interestingly, in England, all paths are public rights-of-way -- no matter where they go or whose land they're on, you can hike on them. Technically, this is not true in Scotland, but I ignored this little reality. The fact is, that when you're in the middle of nowhere, there really isn't anyone to tell you to leave.
