Traveling in Africa
guinea buissau

From Ziguinchor, Senegal to Sao Domingo, Guinea Bissau, we took a mini-pickup [the smallest pickup you can imagine] with 23 people on it: 3 in front, 14 in back, 6 on top. Plus livestock and luggage (as I was going to Saint Ives...). Then we switched to a flatbed truck 15 feet long. At times, there were 50 people on the truck. We took two ferry crossings, over what were little more than streams, because they simply don't have the money or materials to build a bridge. It took 3 hours to cross 40 feet of water. It took 11 hours to get to Guinea Bissau. I think it was about 60 miles total.

Behind the cute kids is our hotel on the island.

"By the way, I'm traveling now with all my clothes in a plastic bag, which wears out daily and has to be replaced."
