The Mezquita

In 756, Abd ar-Rahman 1st took control of Cordoba, and began the work on what was to become this great mosque. It underwent numerous expansions over the centuries, until it contained 365 bays (between any four pillars) -- one for every day of the year. The vaulted ceiling is held up by 1293 marble pillars - many scavenged from roman ruins.

In 1523, the Christians build a Cathedral right in the middle.

At least they didn't tear it down, which is what they usually did.
